Cholera fears in Mberengwa after Cyclone Dineo

Over 90 families in Mberengwa District in the Midlands province face the threat of a cholera outbreak. Cyclone Dineo destroyed their homes and ablution facilities when it hit the area mid-February 2017.  The damaged toilets forced them to resort to open defecation. Furthermore, flood victims now live in tents and have no toilets.

Cholera spreads when human waste contaminates drinking water. More than 4 000 people died of cholera in Zimbabwe in 2008.
