Harare illegal pirate taxis (Mushikashika) drivers boast that no one can stop them from unlawful and dangerous acts. The drivers are reckless and often do not have regard for traffic laws and human life.

Scores of pedestrians have died and some injured as a result of the reckless conduct. Often they engage in running chases with municipal traffic officers and police.

The illegal taxi operators say they are doing it because there is no employment. MCZ contributor Cynthia Chimbunde spoke to some of the drivers and pedestrians on the growing problem.
